Vacation Overview

Breathtaking scenery, the Arctic Circle, train rides, cruises, vibrant cities, and so much more await you on this marvelous Scandinavia and Russia tour. Scenic highlights include a fantastic, overnight cruise from Copenhagen to Norway in first-class, outside, two-berth cabins with private facilities and dinner included; a train ride between Oslo and Bergen, considered to be one of the world's most scenic train rides; a ferry ride from Sweden to Denmark; a ride on the high-speed Sapsan train in Russia; and a spectacular ride on the Flåm train with some of Norway's most magnificent scenery, including Kjosfossen Waterfall, with its water cascading down the mountainside—a special experience offered by Globus.

Spend time in the Arctic Circle—land of the "Midnight Sun"—where you will visit the North Cape Visitor Center, marking the endpoint of the European mainland. Here, stand at the sheer cliff rising 1,000 feet from the Atlantic Ocean and feel like you're at the end of the world. In the Arctic Circle, also enjoy ferry crossings on the Ullsfjord and Lyngenfjord, which offer breathtaking views of the Lyngen Alps, with their blue glaciers, and mountain peaks rising more than 3,280 feet directly from the fjord. Visit Alta's rock carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site demonstrating a human settlement dating from 4,200 to 500 BC. Admire crystal-clear streams, sparkling lakes, tundra, and forests as you head south to Finland's Lapland and cross back over the Arctic Circle. Special experiences offered by Globus are highlight visits to the Santa Claus Village, where you receive your Arctic Circle Certificate, and to a Husky Farm. Your flights from Oslo to Tromsø and from Rovaniemi to Helsinki are included, and three nights in Helsinki allow the opportunity to join an optional excursion to Tallinn in Estonia. In Russia, visit St. Petersburg’s world-famous Hermitage Museum and enjoy a specialty dinner; and Moscow’s Red Square and the Kremlin, plus the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, and the Novodevichy (New Maiden) Convent!

On this Scandinavia and Russia tour, you'll also spend time in the cities and enjoy guided sightseeing in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Bergen, Oslo, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, and Moscow. All of this—and much more—are included on this spectacular once-in-a-lifetime vacation!

Itinerary

ARRIVE IN OSLO, NORWAY. Welcome to Oslo, ancient capital of Norway! At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)
OSLO. Today gives you a proper introduction to Oslo, the country’s hub of trade and industry. Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the National Theater, considered the home for Ibsen’s plays; the unique Storting building, seat of Parliament; and the Royal Palace, residence of Norwegian monarchs since 1849. Stroll through magnificent FROGNER PARK with Gustav Vigeland’s extraordinary sculptures; and visit the CITY HALL, where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held each year. Afterwards, an optional excursion is available to see relics of Norway’s glorious seafaring past—including 1,000-year-old Viking ships! Breakfast and Dinner
OSLO–BORGUND–FLÅM. Depart the city and drive northwest through Hallingdal, a large valley with rich traditions in iron production, cattle trade, and typical folk art, music, and dance. Visit the BORGUND STAVE CHURCH, dating back to 1180. Then, travel through the world’s longest road tunnel (15 miles) to Aurland, and arrive in the picturesque village of Flåm, situated at the head of Aurlandsfjord. You may wish to join an exciting optional cruise on the famous Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Breakfast and Dinner
FLÅM–MYRDAL–VOSS–HARDANGERFJORD. This morning, experience a breathtaking ride on the [LF] FLÅM RAILWAY, which passes through 20 tunnels and climbs to an elevation of 2,833 feet. Along the way, stop for pictures at Kjosfossen waterfall. At Myrdal mountain station, change trains and continue on the scenic Bergen Railway to Voss. Here, board your coach and head south, crossing Hardanger Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Continue along the shore and arrive at the historic [LF] Ullensvang Hotel in its idyllic setting between the mountains and the Hardangerfjord. It was here that composer Edvard Grieg wrote his most famous pieces—and his cabin still stands in the hotel gardens. Breakfast and Dinner
HARDANGERFJORD–UTNE–STEINSDALSFOSS–BERGEN. Nature’s splendor is on full display today, as you travel south around Sørfjord and then north to the peaceful village of Utne. Tonight, why not sample regional dishes at a traditional restaurant? Breakfast and Dinner

Also see the 12th-century St. Mary’s Church, where Hanseatic merchants attended religious services until the 1870s.
